About me
After completing second level, I went on to study and complete a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science and worked for many years in the science sector – first in food hygiene and microbiology followed by pharmaceutical microbiology.
I continue to maintain a keen interest in science and scientific research, especially when it relates to the human mind and body and well-being in general.
After many years in the science industry, a change in career beckoned. At first I did not know what direction I wanted to go in but stumbled upon an on-line introductory course in Counselling and Psychotherapy that called to me. Following completion of this, I knew I wanted to know more – I was hooked. I’d had personal experience of the counselling process and its benefits previously and was beginning to understand that it was about more than simply listening.
Fortuitously, I happened upon a newspaper advert for an information evening being run by PCI College and I decided to attend. This only served to cement my interest in couselling as a career choice. I signed up for the on-line certificate course the next day and started the degree course the following year.
The journey to completion was difficult for many different reasons. Balancing family life with study was challenging. Along with the academic requirements that needed to be fulfilled, emotionally it was a roller-coaster as the journey into myself uncovered old hurts that would have preferred to stay buried. The personal learning was invaluable if painful and difficult at times – it’s not the destination that matters so much as the journey.
